We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, how does your business help the community?
Hermetics tells us that “All is mind” meaning that our inner world and thoughts create our outer reality. This is happening on a microcosm within each of or individual lives. We are the creators of our own lives through our thoughts and actions. The ‘All is mind’ also applies to the collective consciousness of humans which is made of up of the shared mind of all humans- the macrocosm. When we do the inner work and take responsibility for our own shadow side or negative ego, we have the ability to change our lives. Now multiply that where you have hundreds of people doing this same inner work and this creates a ripple effect out in communities and the world. How we change our communities and the world is by healing and moving beyond the individual wounds that keep us separate. Bringing light to the areas within us that have forgotten their divine nature. There’s one tool that I’ve found does this better than anything else, and that tool is the ancient art of initiation.

My business, Awaken Within, provides lineage-based, ancient spiritual teachings, healings, and Initiation for human progression. I am certified to offer these modalities by the Modern Mystery School, the lineage of King Salomon. The teachings are thousands of years old and pre-date all religion on the planet. The Modern Mystery School is in service to all of humanity to assist in the ascension of the human consciousness on this planet. The lineage provides people with the tools and teachings they need in order to empower themselves and realize that they are their own greatest teacher, so that they may remember who they truly are.

My whole mission is to build a new world that focused on the progression, betterment, and coming together of all humans. I’ve been exploring religion and spirituality for over 20 years and I’ve yet to find any grounded, non-dogmatic, empowering way to progress, heal, and awaken to our full potential except through these lineage teachings and tools. And one person at a time the world can, and will change.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
After college, I started my career in the corporate world in Sales and quickly worked my way into Sales Management. I, like many people, followed the societal story of here’s what you do to create ‘happy and successful life’ which was going to college and getting a good paying job. By my late twenties I was making a 6-figure income and was managing a large team of 30+ people. I was traveling the world through work and on the surface had a really great life, but deep down it began to feel meaningless and I didn’t feel inspired by the work I was doing in the world. Stress and anxiety were the norm for me and often I didn’t know how I could continue the trajectory of climbing the corporate ladder. It felt like the higher I went, I had to sacrifice more of myself and for what? Money and ‘success’? I often wondered what the purpose of it all was and felt that there was a depth to life I wasn’t experiencing. Now looking back I realize this was the beginning of my own spiritual awakening and calling to do more in the world and to find my purpose and place in the world doing something that felt meaningful to me. I still do consulting work and contact work in the business world but I now do it on my terms where I have more say in my schedule and compensation to create win-win situations. I want all people to find their purpose and place in the world through doing work that is intricately woven into the fabric of who they are what their heart calls for them to do and experience in the physical. Life is too short to be a slave working a job that brings you no meaning but a paycheck.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the things I love about being in Los Angeles is that we have the BEST of everything here. You can head down Rodeo Dr. for some high-fashion and shopping, or go into different neighborhoods for authentic ethnic food with cuisines from all over the world. We have both mountains and the ocean which leaves plenty to do in nature. My best friend is visiting me from Pennsylvania next month so we are going to head over to Irori Sushi in Marina Del Rey for some delicious omakase sushi then go to Griffiths Observatory for some great views of Downtown LA and the night sky. I highly recommend Irori sushi for the food quality as well as the traditional Japanese ambiance. They have you take your shoes off upon arrival and they offer lovely traditional floor seating (with room for your legs underneath). The next day we’ll head down to Laguna Beach for some beach time and Mexican food at Avila’s El Ranchito. Laguna has so many quaint shops and restaurants, I love exploring all of the beach towns in SoCal. Oh! I have been wanting to check out the new Mario World at Universal Studios so I hope we can squeeze that into our weekend adventure as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dave Lanyon, Author, Spiritual Teacher, and Sovereign Ipsissimus, lineage-holder for the Modern Mystery School, has been my greatest teacher, mentor, and guide in this physical lifetime. Personally and professionally, his wisdom and teachings have empowered me and created new pathways of light within my mind. He exemplifies what it means to be an honorable man in this world through his everyday actions as a Husband, Father, Business Leader, and Mentor, and Teacher. I would not be who I am without the influence, compassion, and teachings of this man.
